After, completing High School (Lucy C. Laney, 1970) I worked a while until March 1972 in Augusta. I enlisted into the US Army leaving Augusta in March 1972 for basic training at Fort Jackson, SC and Advance training at Fort Lee, VA. I was assigned to an Air Defense unit in Key West, FL and then to an Armored Cavalry unit in Germany. I left the Army to complete the requriements for my degree in accounting from Fort Valley State University and was Commision as a US Army Officer. I received both in March 1979. After Fort Valley I was assigned to the 9th Infantry Division, Fort Lewis, WA, and then to Huntsville, AL for advanced officer training. After this training I was sent to Babson College in Babson Park, MA to obtain a MBA in Acquisition. After receiving my MBA the Army assigned me to Fort Eustis, VA as Chief of the Contract Requirement Branch. in 1986.
